" Paint from your interior", 0ne of my teachers said once to me. I grew up surrounded by the creative and vibrant wave of " La Movida " of Barcelona in the 1970s and 1980s. This was a time of change - of governments and politics - but especially in the world of Spanish culture and art. I studied various forms of art , forming an appreciation for international contemporary art. My craft is self taught, enhanced by studies in Pamplona, Boston, and Gloucester, Massachusetts. Currently I spend time painting in my two studios in Navarra, Spain and on Cape Ann, north of Boston.
"Pinta desde el interior" me dijo un profesor. Crecí en "la movida" de Barcelona, los vibrantes años 70 y 80. Eran tiempos de cambio, y no solo en gobierno y política, sino también en el arte y la cultura. Admiré distintas formas de arte pero me interesé especialmente por el contemporáneo tanto español como internacional. Soy autodidacta aunque he recibido clases en Pamplona, Boston y Gloucester, en Massachusetts. Actualmente alterno mi tiempo pintando entre Navarra y Cape Ann, al Norte de Boston.
I work mainly with acrylics and oils on cotton canvas.
Principalmente utilizo acrílicos y óleos sobre lienzo de algodón.
I draw my inspiration from the colors of the world around me as I observe the ever changing light that plays off surfaces. The abstract expression and technique of Joan Mitchell and Willem de Kooning have been my main influences. But my true source of inspiration comes from my dear aunt Lydia who had a strong art sensitivity and taught me to "see" more deeply; to contemplate beyond the boundaries of light and space.
Mi inspiración viene de apreciar el constante cambio de luz en la naturaleza que nos rodea, así como la expresión abstracta y la técnica de Joan Mitchell y Willem de Kooning.
Pero mi verdadera fuente de inspiración viene de mi querida Tía Lydia quien tenía una una sensibilidad artística extraordinaria y me enseñó a ver profundamente, a mirar más allá de los límites de la luz y del espacio.
